Target: Making India world skill capital

GUWAHATI, Aug 18: Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) MD And Prakash Tiwari said that the government was committed to develop skills of youths and to develop a transparent communication between Training Partners (TPs) and Sector Skill Councils (SSCs).

Tiwari was present at the ‘Workshop on Skill Development with tiol Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), SSCs and TPs’ held in the city on Friday. He said people, especially the youth in order to reap benefits from ASDM, have to come forward and relate their queries. He, however, said that initial glitches should not ‘demotivate’ people as the ASDM is slowly making its impact in the region.

Representatives of various sector skill councils like textile, power, electronics, media said their objectives and job roles in the Northeast.

Three MoUs were signed by ASDM Mission Director Tiwari with the representatives of Plumbing, Logistics and Beauty and Wellness Sector Skill Councils at the workshop. 

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Chandra Mohan Patowary said: “Skill is inbuilt in every human being. But we need to explore, utilize and hone it for betterment of the person and society at large. Human resource of our country is very rich, and we need to make India the skill capital of the world as per the vision of our Prime Minister.”

Referring to the skilled workers of Chi, Patowary added: “We must skill our human resources so that the country becomes a production destition for the industries of the world. This will be in accordance with our Make in India initiative.”

The minister requested the NSDC to set up an office in Guwahati so that the department, organizations and training partners can work in a coordited-manner to achieve skilled manpower in the state.

Patowary declared that there will be a Skill Development Centre in every block, municipality and town committee with a target to skill 1.50 lakh youths of the state. He added that companies like Samsung, Havells, Usha, Skipper, Lakme have been asked to open skill centres in the state to train up the youths and make them industry-ready. 

Additiol Chief Secretary KV Eapen said, “The Department will collaborate with ITE Education Services, Singapore to set up a Skill Centre in Assam and raise the standards of skill training to a global level.” Commissioner and Secretary of Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department Ashutosh Agnihotri, while delivering the welcome address, said: “India has the demographic dividend with 65% of the population below the age of 35. This vast pool of young talent and energy needs to be channelized through proper implementation of skill development initiatives.”
