Tarun Duvarah memorial OIL Awards given away

GUWAHATI, Oct 6: The 5th Tarun Duvarah Memorial Oil India Awards 2015 were given away today at Rabindra Bhavan by Assam Minister for Cultural Affairs Bismita Gogoi.

This awards are annually presented by Gauhati Artists Guild in association with Oil India Limited, The Assam Tribune and the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Assam, to two renowned artists of Assam in the field of art and culture. On behalf of Director (Operation) Oil India Limited  PK Sharma, OIL GGM (PLS) Rahul Choudhury attended the function as a guest of honour. The awards carry a cash amount of Rs 1.50 lakh and a citation each.

This year the two renowned artists chosen for the awards were the eminent actor and director Kulada Kumar Bhattacharjee and renowned painter and sculptor Soram th.

Speaking on the occasion, Bismita Gogoi hailed the contributions of the two artists in the field of art and culture, and lauded Oil India Limited for their noble effort in recognizing the stalwarts of the yesteryears.

It may be recalled that Late Tarun Duvarah was recognized as one of the most versatile artists Assam has ever produced. His craftsmanship evolved over the various media of painting -oil, water-colour, pastel, charcoal, and pencil with immense imagition and a poetic sensibility. He was also successful in other forms of art such as acting, dancing, textile designing etc.
