Teachers' excellence awards given away

GUWAHATI, May 6: “The initiative to honour teachers by Bookland Publication is a very remarkable one and it will instill an ambience of respect-giving to teachers in society. It is very commendable that none but Bookland Publication has come out with such a unique concept of Teachers’ Excellence Awards in the Northeast”, said Dr Laksminandan Borah while delivering his lecture at the first Bookland Teachers’ Excellence Awards-2018 and Samannay Sahitya Bota-2018 in Guwahati on Sunday.

The Sahitya Akademi winning author has also said that this award will surely inspire the young teachers to do their duty with more dedication and commitment. Professor Gautam Biswas, Director of IIT Guwahati has given a PPT presentation on the theme ‘How to create a favourable atmosphere of learning among teachers and students’. He stressed the value-based education.

Five Teacher’s Excellence Awards were given away on the occasion. The winners were Biren Bora (Binod Nath Memorial Life Time Achievement Award), Mrs Anita Nath (Malati Nath Memorial teacher of the Year), Mr Chandra Saharia (Best Teacher for Excellent Teaching Methods), Mr Jatin Bordoloi (Best teacher for extra curricular activities), and Mrs Manju Rani Laskar (Bookland Pragya Sadhana Award).

Meanwhile about 50 principals and founders from various reputed schools of Guwahati have been felicitated on the occasion. Among them were Nellie Ahmed Tanweer (Maria’s), Mr ashotush Agarwal (Sanskriti-The Gurukul), Dr Pulak Bhatta (Cambridge International), Dr Nripen Kumar Dutta (Miles Bronson Residential School) etc.

Bookland Samannay Sahitya Award-2018 was conferred on reputed author and poet Dr Nanda Singh Borkala for his contribution to unity in the greater Assamese society through literature. The programme were also attended by Dr Hiralal Duwara, writer and former VC of Gauhati university, Dr Rohini Kumar Baruah, noted writer and retired IAS; Swapnanil Baruah, retired IAS officer and writer; Narayan Deka, MLA, Borkhetri Constituency; Dr Kalpana Duwara, former Professor of Physics, GU and Dr Suchitra Kakati, writer and educationist.
