Term of House panel extended

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, May 19: The House committee instituted to inquire into the massive anomalies in the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Project (RGREP) has extended its term up to December this year. The extension of the term awaits the approval of the Speaker. The House committee headed by Membor Gogoi could not prepare the report as it had to visit far-flung rural areas in the state as the anomalies had been massive all over the state. The House committee today decided to visit Karbi Anglong, Jorhat, Dhemaji and Udalguri soon and submit the report to the State Assembly by December this year. It is worth mentioning here that the anomalies in the RGREP had rocked the State Assembly two years back when the issue had been raised on the floor of the House by ruling party MLA Bhupen Bora. The ruckus in the Assembly had been beyond control till Speaker Prab Kumar Gogoi made the announcement that the House was going to institute a House committee to inquire into the alleged anomalies.
