They just have a desire path, no road!

From our Correspondent

AZARA, Nov 25: Some 400 people residing at Ambori under Azara police station in West Guwahati are have-nots, all-round! They literally have nothing. Since they have no road, they have to go out through a ‘desire path’, transgressing Lokapriya Gopith Bordoloi Intertiol Airport’s (LGBIA) area. They continue to remain have-nots even after death!
They have no road connectivity. They remain confined to their locality when it rains as their communication with rest of Guwahati gets totally spped. A desire path is not supposed to be made usable through concrete or bitumen works. It is only bare soil with a trail left behind by people and animals walking over it day in, day out. They have to walk around a km to go to the main road – Dharapaur-Palasbari Road. They are partially off the grid. They have power connection, but no supply of potable water. State PHE did lay pipelines and water taps back in the day. However, that is a history now. They have no potable water.
It is beyond ones imagition as to how they take patients to hospitals. Just think! They have to go long three km for their nearest hospital – Garal Primary Health Centre. This is not all. They have no institution for higher education nearby. After completion of elementary education, students from there have to go to far-off places – Azara, Dharapur, Kendukuchi and Agchia – for secondary and higher secondary education. For college education, they have to go either to Dharapur or Mirza. Though they have electricity connection, but in the evening only the filament is seen glowing. Low-voltage is the essence of their erratic power supply.
Strangely enough, they continue to remain have-nots even after death. Since the residential area has no public crematorium, they have to face a harrowing time when anyone in the area dies. They have no specific place for funeral! They hang their heads down in shame while claiming themselves as city dwellers!
