Three arrested for blackmailing woman

GUWAHATI, April 16: A youth who fixes mobile handsets and two of his accomplices were caught by the Paltan Bazar police yesterday for blackmailing a woman.

The woman had given her mobile handset to Amit Maro (32) of Bijay gar in Kamrup district for repair, long back. Maro was known to her. In what can be called as the breach of trust, Maro recovered some deleted pictures clicked earlier with the mobile phones, doctored the pictures with new and unwanted additions and threatened her of making them public. This episode had been going on for a long time. At long last, Maro demanded a huge amount of money from the woman on the condition that he would return her the mobile handset along with the pictures in it.

In the meantime, the woman filed a case (193/17) at Paltan Bazar Police Station. The police have widened their dragnet to catch the fraud. Maro and his two accomplices – Shahin Rahmat Ullah (30) and Siddique Rahman (30), both hailing from Goalpara – came to collect the amount of money from the woman at Bharalumukh yesterday only to be caught by the police.

Maro admitted before the police that he cannot write responses to SMSs. Whenever, he received any SMS from the woman regarding her mobile handset and photographs in it, he would rush to Ullah and Rahan for sending the reply SMS, and in doing that he had to go for an understanding with the duo.
