Three lakh page in-charges to keep in touch with voters!

BJP Assam Pradesh owns Gujarat model

GUWAHATI, Jan 3: Going by the formula that every tub must stand on its own bottom, the BJP Assam Pradesh is going to adopt its own and proven Gujarat model in the panchayat poll slated for 2018 and Lok Sabha poll slated for 2019 in the State. The party is going to appoint around three lakh page in-charges (pan pravari in BJP terminology) in poll-bound Assam.

Brainchild of BJP’s own poll strategists, appointment of page in-charges that yielded positive results in Gujarat was first announced in Assam by party’s tiol organizatiol general secretary in-charge for Assam Ramlal at the Shakti Kendra conference of the party held on December 24, 2017 in Guwahati.

The concept of page in-charge is that one party leader is to be the in-charge of voters in every sheet of the electoral roll in the State. Both pages of a sheet of paper in the electoral rolls contain around 55 voters of around 25-30 families. All that a page in-charge has to do is keeping in touch with the around 55 voters all throughout, helping them build opinion and making them turn out for voting.

According to draft electoral rolls, 2018, Assam has 2,07,22,150 voters. “We’re going to appoint around three lakh page in-charges against 2,07,22,150 voters in the State,” State BJP general secretary Dilip Saikia told this reporter. He added: “This innovative concept is the brainchild of the BJP which put it into practice first in the recently held Gujarat Assembly poll. The result was up to our expectation. We’re trying hard to make the party strong organizatiolly in Assam as well. We’ve already adopted the Shakti Kendra model – each of the 6,000 shakti kendras in the State is formed with four/five members cherry-picked from each booth. We’ve asked our leaders in districts to send mes of candidates for page in-charges from booths. A candidate should be an executive member of a booth committee of the party. All page in-charges to be picked will get training at district and mandal levels so as to hone their skill in keeping in touch with voters on all issues, including availing benefits of government schemes and exercising franchise.”
