Tight security at Fancy Bazar

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, July 19: Security has been beefed up in Guwahati, especially in the Fancy Bazar area where motorcycles and pedestrians are thoroughly checked. Even tiffin carriers of people are opened and checked to ascertain if anything dangerous are there. The development came close on the heels of the killing of Hindi-speaking people at Pengere in Tinsukia and the agitation by the local people there, followed by a warning from ULFA chief Paresh Baruah. The security has also tightened taking into account the forthcoming Independence Day. A section of businessmen in the Fancy Bazar area says that Fancy Bazar has always been a soft target, and in such a situation tight security is a must.
