AZARA, Aug 19: Sleuths of zol flying protection squad of the State Forest Department seized a truckload (AS01DC9782) of smuggled pinewood worth around Rs 4 lakh from NH-37 near Mirza on Friday night.
The documents of the truck expired long back. On suspicion, the sleuths handed over the truck and timber it was carrying to forest Division office at Rani.
According to the driver of the truck, the timber was taken from Meghalaya illegally so as to take them to other States through Assam. Sources say that this practice has been going on for a long time with the involvement of some forest officials.
