tiol Consumers' Day observed

GUWAHATI, Dec 24: To create awareness among the common people about consumer rights and laws on the tiol Consumer Rights Day, the Consumers' Legal Protection Forum, Assam (CLPF), in association with Legal Help Service Organization, Dibrugarh (LHSO) organized a daylong programme at Kamrup (Metro) and Kamrup District. CLPF organized Street awareness meeting, Street free legal aid camp, Street Postering and Leaflet distribution program at the various places of both district.  Volunteers and office-bearers of both organizations conduct awareness meeting at the bus stops, market places, in front of hospitals and distributed leaflets containing various information regarding the rights of common consumers. Forum provides free legal aid to the victim consumer on the spot. From 8 am to 2 pm, Forum conducted this street programme. Office-bearers and volunteers of CLPF and LHSO divided into small groups and distribute leaflets and aware the common people about their rights as a consumer which is entrusted by Consumer Protection Act, 1986. Forum conducted Street free legal aid camps at the places like Paltan bazaar, Adabari, Khapara, Jalukbari, Amingaon, Baihata Chariali, Azara, Jorabat, rengi, Six Mile where the victim consumers take legal advice on the various problems which they face in their day-to-day life from the legal experts. Through street postering programme forum & LHSO tried to aware the illiterate consumers how they are cheated by the business community in various aspects and how they have to save themselves from any kind of cheating.   

Forum appeal all the common people to utilize the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 to protect their rights as a consumers.
