tiol semir on medical negligence held

GUWAHATI, Dec 5:  A one-day tiol semir on 'Medical Tourism and Ubated Medical Negligence in India: A legal and Holistic Perspective' organized by NEF Law College and Indian Council of Medical Research was held today in the city.

Assam Advocate General Chinmoy Choudhury iugurated the semir. NEF law College Principal Dr Ruma Bordoloi delivered the welcome speech followed by a speech by NEF Group of Colleges Director Dr Zakir Hussain.

Gauhati Medical College Principal Dr Atindra Adhikari spoke on 'Medical Tourism: Scope, Issues, Challenges and Dilemmas'. It was followed by Tezpur Medical College forensic medicine and toxicology Associate Professor Putul Mahanta's speech on 'Proffessiol Misconduct: Doctors' Liability towards Consumers'. The semir came to end with Gauhati University Head of the Department of Communication and Jourlism Associate Professor Ankuran Dutta's speech on 'Medical Negligence : Causes and Issues'. Dutta laid stress on awareness on medical negligence. He maintained that patients have their own rights and responsibilities to know about the medical procedure that he or she undergoes under a doctor. He also pointed out that the procedure of certain operations should be kept under CCTV surveillance and the footages should be kept for at least 100 days.
