TISS students demand gender-neutral hostel in city

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 7: The students of Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) have raised the demand for a gender-neutral hostel and toilets at TISS’ Guwahati campus. Talking to this reporter, Ratdeep Barua, the general secretary of TISS’ Social Council, Guwahati campus, said: “We’re sure to get permission from TISS authorities for such a hostel in Guwahati. TISS already has such a hostel in its Mumbai campus. We don’t see any reason for the authorities not agreeing to such a proposal.”  Ratdeep further said: “We’ve already had talks with TISS’ Students’ Council at Mumbai on this issue. We’re yet to get any response from the Students’ Council, Mumbai. However, we’re scheduled to meet again on April 19, 2018 to discuss various problems afflicting TISS’ Guwahati campus. At that meeting, we’re going to raise the issue of gender-neutral hostel and toilets at the TISS campus in Guwahati also. We’re optimistic to get the nod.”
