GUWAHATI, Dec 5: As many as 50,000 members of the All Guwahati Traders' Association have opposed the recent hike in fees under the Shops and Establishment Act and said that they are totally ignorant of the notification published in the Assam Gazette inviting objections or suggestions from all persons likely to be affected.

"Had it been published through some daily news papers or some electronic media, we could have register our objections and suggestions in proper time," they said, and added: "It would be worthy if you invite us to have a meeting with us on the issue before publication of the fil notification."

They said that with the amendment, the structure of fees for registration, renewal etc., have been abnormally hiked, which will badly affect in the economy of small and middle class traders. "We pray your kind intervention to review the same to a reasoble level which has to be affordable for the above mentioned traders," they said.
