Traffic magement: What a stark contrast!

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 7: ‘No parking’! Traffic magers, park that thought. Hope, they will no longer be in the habit of ‘contradicting’ their own resolutions.

The traffic magers in the city have marked many areas as ‘no-parking zones’ for smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians as well. No-parking zones have certain rules attached to them. Every vehicle driver has to adhere to such rules so as to make the very purpose for which a particular area is tagged ‘no-parking zone’ is served the best. However, when traffic magers themselves violate such rules or opt to look the other way when such violations of traffic rules take place right under their nose, what a vehicle driver will do or feel? The vexed matter of streamlining traffic movement anywhere in the world is certainly not a one-way traffic!

This issue needs a reality check. The very site is the Kahilipara Road-RP Road juncture in front of Ganesh Mandir and near Dispur Press Club. The Assembly Gate also lies in the other side of Ganesh Udyan located in the area. ‘No parking’ written in white in red and blue background is quite visible. What a stark contrast! Some share taxis are seen parked there for most of the time! The share taxis are bound for Hatigaon, Lalmati etc.

Traffic police are also seen there most of the time. They remain busy in maging smooth movement of vehicles. They are witness to the parking of share taxis at the ‘wrong zone’. What might be the reason behind the traffic police not asking the drivers who park their vehicles at the wrong site? This is not the case of a single day or time. This is an everyday scene at the site, that too, near Dispur Press Club and the Gate to the State Assembly.

‘A secret understanding or an unholy nexus between the traffic magers and the share taxi drivers’ is among the whole lot possibilities which circles concerned in the city grope for after witnessing this contrasting scene. Will the traffic police in the city do the needful or let people know the very truth, if any, by unveiling the mystery?
