Training for former rebels

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, March 24: Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay feels that self-reliance in the right index for self-dignity of a person. The DGP said so at a training camp held in the city today to hone the skill of former rebels who have joined the mainstream of society, so as to make them self-reliant.
Speaking at the iugural function of Swabalamban Scheme undertaken by the Department of Home, in association with the SIPRD at its Kahikuci campus on the outskirts of Guwahati today, Sahay said: “You had a struggling past. In fact, struggle is life. The first step may be a short one. What’s important is the role you can play. To be rich is good. However, one has to be self-reliant. The decision is one’s own. Educatiol qualification isn’t that important. Examples galore that people without higher educatiol qualifications could make stride in life. The fear of failure has to be erased from the mind.”
Additiol Chief Secretary MGVK Bhanu, who was also present at the iuguration, said: “The training programme is set to benefit the former rebels. Imparting training to the surrendered rebels is not the end. The department has to make bank loans for them possible. Proper use of the loans has to be keenly watched at.” ADGP (SB) Pallab Bhattacharya, SBI’s NE Chief General Mager PVSLN Murty, Principla Secretary (Home) Hemanta rzary and others were present at the function. Over 600 former rebels attended the programme. In phase 1 of the programme, 102 former rebels will be given training and over 16,000 former rebels will be given such training in phases.
