Training on candle-making he in city

GUWAHATI, June 12: Under the aegis of the Commissionerate of Industries and Commerce (CI&C), a 10-day training on candle-making has been initiated from today at Quality Control Office of Industries and Commerce Department, Bamunimaidam. Thirty women have been selected from Kamrup (Metro) for the programme.

‘Numaligarh Refinery Limited and IOCL, Digboi produce some of the finest wax in the country. Though there is no dearth of raw materials of wax, yet there is no existence of cottage industries in this sector here’, said Mikshi Debi, Deputy Director and in-charge of Women Cell, CI&C. ‘Hence, this training programme aims to empower the women in this business sector and turn them self-reliant’, she added.

Puberun Sarmah, Resource Person from NEDFi said that the programme will be followed by a year-long training on advanced designing, capacity building, hand-holding in candle-making. ‘The goal is to brand Assam candles, facilitate the market linkages and take it to the global are,’ stated Sarmah.

It may be mentioned here that CI&C plans to hold a similar training programme at Tezpur as well.
