Training to make VDP a smart force!

GUWAHATI, Jan 1: The village defence parties (VDP) in Assam do a devil of a job! However, now on they will perform their duty in an efficient and smart manner as they are being imparted special training so as to make them capable of tackling every unwanted situation with expertise.
Following a directive from Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, the State Police is going to hold a special training programme from January 2 to 12 at the regiol training centre of Fire and Emergency Service located at North Guwahati.
In a statement issued to the press, the State Police force said that besides their modernization, some 6,106 non-registered DVPs of the State will be given proper training so as to strengthen them and make them proactive. The process for the registration of the VDPs is also underway through the processing of database. Each of the 6,106 VDPs in the will have at least five women members. The VDP members will be given mobile phones and other equipments so as to make them an efficient and smart force. The special training of the VDPs will also include awareness of the personnel the Assam VDP Act, 1966 and other relevant Acts, activities of antisocial elements, drug paddling, witch-hunting, superstition etc., besides training on rescue operation during disasters. Late Hari rayan Baruah is the founder of VDP movement in Assam. Since its inception in the State in 1949 many valiant VDP members have lost their lives while rendering their services. In memory of all those valiant VDP members a souvenir – Ahuti – will also be published.
