Tribute to a colleague Amlan Mazumdar

The news of Amlan Mazumdar’s  passing away jolted me to the core, just like most of us in NRL. Amlan succumbed to his injuries on 2nd February, 2015 after an unfortute accident while on duty at NRL’s Siliguri Marketing Termil on 31st January, 2015.

It is difficult to believe that a person full of life and very much in command of himself was no longer with us. It was just 2 days before the fateful accident that he called me back after having received a missed call to apprise on some official matters. He said he would revert on the issue soon, which however was never to be for God has other plans in store. My first memories of meeting Amlan was in latter part of 1994 when 40 of us joined NRL as the first batch of Graduate Engineer Trainees at a time when the Refinery  project was in its early stages of construction. It has been a remarkable journey together ever since and the bonding and camaraderie that we shared as we grew with the company makes his untimely demise seem like a string broken and hence extremely painful. A pall of gloom has descended in Siliguri and NRL Township where he resided with his family for many long years.

Amlan was born on 1st of April, 1968. He completed his schooling from Dibrugarh Bengali High School in the year  1983 after which he pursued his Pre-Degree (Science), passing out in the year 1985.  He had a brilliant academic record as a top ranking student of Jorhat Engineering College (JEC) and was considered as one of the best faculty members of the Mechanical Engineering Department of his alma mater, where he worked for a few years after attaining his BE(Mechanical) in the year 1991 and before joining NRL in the year 1994.

Amlan personified sincerity and dedication to the hilt and was an asset to our company NRL. His contribution in building NRL as a model of industrial enterprise in the region and his zeal to enhance learning has definitely had a positive impact on the lives he touched.

On the day of your Adhya Shraddha today, the 13th of Feb’15 we pray to God to grant you everlasting peace in heaven.
