Truckers ransack Meghalaya check-gate

DIMORIA, Dec 11: Truck drivers and handymen ransacked the Meghalaya Transport Department check-gate located at 13 Mile on NH-6 along the Assam-Meghalaya border today. The agitated truckers even kept some BSF jawans gheraoed for a long time.

According to reports, a BSF jawan physically assaulted truck driver Ballabh Singh and his son, allegedly for their refusal to pay cash illegally at the check-gate. After the incident, a large number of truck drivers rushed to the spot and dismantled the check-gate. The irate truckers even kept some BSF jawans gheraoed for a long time. The situation was very tense.  Meanwhile, the Ri-Bhoi SP brought the situation under control by announcing an inquiry into the incident.
