Uddipa' is AASU way to pay tribute to balladeer

GUWAHATI, Sept 7: Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s deeds made his me synonymous with inspiration. What else could be more fitting to me All Assam Students’ Union’s tribute-paying function to the cultural icon other than ‘Uddipa’ (inspiration).

Since 2009 the AASU has been organizing ‘Uddipa’ to pay tribute to Dr. Hazarika on his birthday. On this 90th birth anniversary on September 8 also the AASU is going to observe ‘Uddipa’ at Dighalipukhuripar where a life-size statue of the cultural icon has been installed.

‘Uddipa’ is such a tribute-paying programme that always makes the remembrance of the balladeer live. On this day, an audience goes home back with his/her memory box filled with Bhupen Hazarika – his lyrics, music and voice. This is because on this day all the best singers of all the colleges and universities of the State perform live in front of music lovers and art lovers at Dighalaipukhuripar where the AASU holds the programme.

This year the programme is being organized tomorrow by the AASU, the All Guwahati Students’ Union (AGSU) and the All Kamrup District Students’ Union (AKDSU). The best singers from as many as 35 colleges and universities of the State will perform at ‘Uddipa’ tomorrow.
