'Sarbanda Sonowal shamelessly proved he is a killer'

GUWAHATI, March 24: The United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has cautioned the public from ‘political career oriented killers’. The organization on Thursday trained its guns towards the BJP and its ally AGP and slammed the leaders of both the parties.

In a statement to The Sentinel on Thursday, assistant information and publicity secretary of the outfit, Arunudoy Asom said, “In the long course of our ongoing revolution, we met many people. We admit that since 1986, many so called Assamese tiolist individuals of many regiol organizations came into contact with us and they used our members for their own vested interest.”

He further added, “Due to this, incidents like that of the killing of student leader Saurav Bora, Dimbeswar Gogoi, ARMKA leader Amitabh Rabha, Mabendra Sarma, Kamala Saikia, Lachit Kalita’s daughter Sabm Kalita, Sanjoy Ghosh etc took place. So called leader of the masses like Sarbanda Sonowal, Himanta Biswa Sarma facilitated these killings for vested interest i.e. to secure their political career.”

“During and after the assault on student leader Saurav Bora inside the Dibrugarh University on May 27, 1986, Sarbanda Sonowal was living with some of our comrades. It was we who elected Sarbanda Sonowal as the president of All Assam Students’ Union. This are facts that cannot be wiped out. But these leaders who used our comrades to fulfill their ambitions, later killed the very people who helped them through the Indian occupatiol forces, so that the proofs can be wiped out,” Arunudoy Asom said in the statement.

He further added, “ULFA-I vice president and Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) Major General Paresh Asom (Paresh Baruah) was the C-in-C even then. But, these killings never had his approval. It was learnt later after due investigation.”

Terming former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta as the ‘vice president’ of the ‘secret killers’ and Chandra Mohan Patowary and Padma Hazarika as ‘members’, the ULFA-I said that the recent political equation of the BJP and the AGP is a clear sigl of ‘devastating the lives of the people of the State in the coming days’. “By participating in a election rally of the C-in-C of the secret killers Bhaskar Sarma, Sarbanda Sonowal has shamelessly proved that he is indeed a killer, who killed a promising student leader like Saurav Bora to safeguard his own political career.”

The outfit also slammed the BJP for its failure in finding the whereabouts of the 26 missing cadres of the ULFA who went missing during Operation All Clear in Bhutan which was carried out by the NDA government in 2001-02.

Stating that the ULFA-I is less bothered about who becomes the Chief Minister of the State through an election conducted by the ‘so called democracy of India’, the outfit cautioned the political parties not to divide the people of Assam on commul and religious lines.

“Wearing the mask of Jatiyo yak (tiol hero), for vested interest these people are again making a blueprint to destroy the Assam and its people, but this conspiracy will never succeed,” he said.
