DIMORIA, Nov 15: The local people and the Inter-Dimoria Regiol Students’ Union (IDRSU), Asom Cha Jajati Chatra Santha, Sadou Dimoria Yuva Chatra Santha and a number of other organizations of the area today locked the Shiva Beverage Private Ltd (SVPL), which is under construction at Sakhura at Khetri on the outskirts of Guwahati.
The irate local people and members of the organizations locked SVPL, which is being constructed at a 5 bigha 3 katha and 2 lecha plot under Daag No. 282, 283 and 359 (kecha patta No. 29 and 41) at Kendubam village, but not before removing the vehicles being used for the construction works and the labourers engaged there from the plot.
Dimoria unit secretary of the Asom Cha Jajati Chantra Santha Raju Gorait said in this connection: “This factory being constructed against the welfare of the people residing in the locality will have to be closed at any cost. Legal action should also be taken against those who are behind the setting up of the liquor factory.”
Meanwhile, the local people squarely blame it on Khetri Gaon Panchayat president Anu Rongson Doley for issuing the NOC for the liquor factory without taking the people of the locality into confidence.
On the other hand, an Excise team led by Deputy Superintendent Amarendra th conducted a raid in the Dimoria area and arrested as many as 16 people associated with the business of illicit liqour in the area. The team also destroyed a number of local liquor dens.
