Unhygienic meat gluts Guwahati market!

 BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Jan 8: Even after many attempts from the Kamrup (Metro) District Administration and Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Guwahati is glutted with unhygienic meat.
A number of uuthorized meat sellers near Police Reserve, Guwahati are carrying out their business without any hindrance. They have set up open stalls for selling meat which flies and other insects sit on throughout the day. Flies even breed on raw meat on display for sale.
This unhygienic meat selling is next to the level crossing, through which hundreds of people play the game of death, crossing the level crossing while trains are running.
Speaking to this reporter, meat seller Abdul Khan said, “We’re poor people. We need to eke out our livings. Until and unless we are provided with an altertive market place to sell meat, we’ll have to mage our daily earnings through selling meat in this place. As this is a place near the level-crossing, we get a good number of customers too.” “Police and authorities know our presence here. Some even visit us to buy our meat as the police reserve is in the close proximity,” he added.
This happens only because the GMC has utterly failed to monitor the proper implementation of the Slaughter House Act, 2012.
