Uuthorized parking multiplies problems in city area

GUWAHATI, January 28: SRCB Road in the Fancy Bazar area in Guwahati is problem–ridden. This is a place in the city where problems get multiplied, mainly due to uuthorized and unscientific parking of vehicles.

A number of places in the Fancy Bazar area were declared no–parking zones recently, but in most of the places the declaration simply failed to see the light of the day. From Railway Gate No. 3 to MG Road in the area, vehicles are parked haphazardly on both the sides of the road, creating numerous problems for the local people, including school–going children and guardians escorting them. Even pedestrians have to face a lot of problems for the parking, let alone people driving vehicles and motorcycles.

Ward No. 8 councillor Rajkumar Tiwari took up the problems arising out of uuthorized parking in the area with the traffic DSP, but to no avail as yet.

A local resident said: “Even if one side of the road is kept free from parking, 90 per cent of the problems in the area will be solved.”

Around 30/35 taxis are kept parked uuthorized at the juncture of SRCB Road and Chaigoli, and the drivers play cards there, sending a wrong message to the society about the atmosphere prevailing there.

This apart, the construction of the SRCB Road is underway, but the construction work is affected as the taxi drivers, as often as not, refuse to remove their vehicles when they are requested.
