Van Mahotsava today

GUWAHATI, June 30: Assam Govenror Banwarilal Purohit has appealed to the people of Assam to celebrate Van Mahotsava on July 1 and take a resolute step to increase green cover in the State. Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, on the other hand, is going to iugurate the mohotsav at Kaliabor tomorrow. In a statement on Friday, the Governor said, “Trees besides increasing greenery in society, purify the air and give fresh lease of life to the people”. He said that massive deforestation across the planet and the declining number of trees caused by several man-created factors has brought major changes in climate. At Kaliabor there will be an avenue plantation in 68 km stretch of Kaliabor-Bokakhat Road. All sections of people and students of different educatiol institutions are expected to participate in the plantation programme. As part of the Mahotsava, there will be a state-level general meeting at 11:45 am at ‘Muktijujaru Bhawan’ at Kuwaritol, Kaliabor, gaon. Sonowal will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
