GUWAHATI, July 15: Killer vector-borne diseases are back in Assam, including Kamrup (M) district. The notorious vector-borne diseases in Assam are dangue, Japanese Encephalitis, Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), malaria, chikungunya fever etc.
According to official sources, as now two JE cases have been identified in the city and in one the patient died. The number of AES cases in the city this year till July 14 is 78. As many as 43 dangue cases have been detected in the city. The detected cases are of dangue type 1. Fortutely no DHF type dangue case is detected in the city. That is a killer dangue. When there is no associate disease with the patients, death by dangue type 1 is rare. However, when there are associate disease with the patients, dangue type 1 may lead to death. Two cases of malaria and nine cases of chikungunya have also been reported in the city this year.
The number of AES cases in the State in 2016 was 1713, including 187 deaths. The number of JE cases in the State last year was 427, including 92 deaths. Till July 9 this year, 979 cases of AES have been reported, including 68 deaths. The number of JE cases this year till July 9 is 254, including 31 deaths. The number of dangue cases in the State last year was 6,157. The number of such cases this year is 104. The number of chukungunya cases in the State this year is 12 against 40 last year.
