Vegetable prices skyrocket in city

GUWAHATI, August 21: The traders from Meghalaya took the advantage of the devastating floods in Assam and hiked the prices of vegetables that come to Guwahati market from the neighbouring State.

According to traders of Fancy Bazar vegetable wholesale market, the Shillong carrot, which was sold at Rs 40 a kg till a month back in Guwahati, is now sold at Rs 80-100 a kg. “Now cabbage is sold in Guwahati at Rs 100-120 a kg, pea with pod at Rs 320-350 a kg, capsicum at Rs 100-120, radish at Rs 40-50 a kg, squash at Rs 40-50 a kg,” wholesalers at Fancy Bazar said, and added: “So long local products are not available in Guwahati, there’s no chance of the prices coming down.”
