Venture school teachers' plea to Dispur

 BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 31: The Asom Sikshak Karmachari Aikya Mancha (ASKAM) will stage an indefinite strike during the Summer Session of the Assam Assembly from September 4 at Dispur Last Gate here.

The teachers’ body has decided to take to the street demanding solution of their various demands including provincialisation of recognized venture schools of the State.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, ASKAM president Sirumoni Baruah and general secretary Anwar H Choudhury said that the State government has hatched a conspiracy to deprive the venture educatiol institutions from provincialisations citing Venture Education Institutes Act, 2006.

They said that these educatiol institutes were established prior to the introduction of the Education Institutes Act, 2006 and were recognized by the government subsequently.

“If the government can only provincialise the educatiol institutes recognized before 2006, then there was no point to recognize other institutes after 2006,” said ASKAM president Baruah.

He said that as many as 3000 teachers of such schools have retired without pay and 156 teachers have committed suicide out of frustration.

Baruah said that during a meeting with the ASKAM representatives on March 8 this year, the State Education Minister had assured to amend the Venture Educatiol Institutions Provincialisation Act, 2017 in the ensuing summer session of the Assembly to pave the way for provincialising the services of the 12141 teachers of 1370 educatiol institutes but the Minister has not done anything. “So we have demanded the government to provincialise the services of the teachers and staffs of the all recognized educatiol institutes of the State by amending the Venture Educatiol Institutions Provincialisation Act, 2017,” Baruah said.

General secretary Hussain Choudhury said that government pay compensation to the teachers of venture schools who have already retired and to the family members of those teachers who have expired without getting any wage.

Meanwhile, a delegation of All Assam Venture High School Teachers’ Association on Thursday met Governor Bunwarilal Purohit at Raj Bhawan here and discussed the issue of provincialisation of the all recongnised venture high schools.
