Guwahati, April 22: Students of the College of Veteriry Science today staged a sit-in protest at their college campus protesting an inquiry ordered by Governor PB Acharya against some administrative anomalies of the Assam Agricultural University.

A general meeting of the students union of the college was held yesterday which discussed the notification of the Governor which ordered the inquiry following allegations of irregularities. The meeting condemned the Governor’s order.

A resolution taken at the union meeting stated that, “Regarding the allegations, the vice chancellor had given a clarification to the board of magement and the allegations have been proved false.”

“The allegations have been stated in a PIL that is being heard by the Gauhati High Court. The Governor is also a respondent in the case. The complaints have not made their contact addresses public which raises doubts that there is a conspiracy by some anti-college elements,” the resolution stated.

According to the students union, there was no “extraordiry circumstances” that surfaced which could have prompted institution of an inquiry by the Governor. Moreover, they also alleged that, the college authorities were not intimated before ordered the inquiry, which is a violation of the AAU Act, 1968.

The students union backed the vice chancellor saying his dedicated efforts had helped strengthen the institution.

Describing the Governor’s order as arbitrary and against the interest of the college, the students union sought its revocation.
