War of words between BJP minority leaders

Staff Reporter

Guwahati, April 26:  A clash and a war of words between two frontline minority leaders of the ruling BJP in the State is apparently brewing up. The two leaders are Sonai MLA Aminul Haque Laskar and State BJP spokesperson and Chairperson of the Assam Minority Development Board Muminul Aowal

Making an open attack on Aowal, Laskar said that in 2016 when Aowal was the president of the BJP Minority Moecha of the State, Aowal asked for Rs 25 lakh as bribe from Laskar for procuring a party ticked for him to contest the Assembly polls. However, Laskar did not make any payment, he added.

Laskar went on to add that he joined the BJP in 2011 and that prior to that he was associated with the AASU. He said that in 2011 he aspired for a party ticked to contest the Assembly polls. However, as he was new, he did not get a ticket and that since 2011 he has been working as a member and active worker of the BJP State unit. Further in 2016 when he sought for a party ticket, Aowal asked for the amount to confirm the ticket. He said that not only did he get a party ticket without paying anything to Aowal but also won the polls, becoming the only Muslim MLA of the BJP in the Assembly.

Laskar further said that since his victory, Awol has been working against him and maintaining animosity towards him. Laskar also alleged that Aowal has been working as an agent of the Congress party.

On the other hand, State BJP spokesperson Muminul Aowal has rubbished all the allegations made by Laskar. Stating that Laskar was cracking a huge lie, Aowal said that if he (Aowal) really sought money, why did Laskar take so long to make such an allegation public, adding that the allegations are imaginary.

Further, Aowal said that said that if Laskar had alleged that the former sought money for ministerial berth for the MLA, then too there might have been some weight.
