WB project on water and sanitation

Guwahati, March 26: Kamrup metropolitan district has started a project in collaboration with World Bank to achieve the target of being an Open Defecation Free (ODF) district by 2016. For that, an awareness programme was held today at the conference hall of Kamrup Metro Zila Parishad.
The Panchayati Raj Institute (PRl) members and Gaon panchayat secretaries were addressed mainly in the meeting by the representatives of World Bank and officials of Public Health Engineering department. As the first step towards the initiative, a district resource group comprising of PRl members was constituted who would be taken to exposure trips outside the state of Assam.
Deputy commissioner Dr M. Angamuthu, taking part in the programme, emphasized on achieving the target within the year 2016 and asked the officials to chalk out a strategic plan for it. “A mass awareness programme would also be organized at Gaon Panchayat and Village level through the members of the district resource groups, which would be formed within the next few days of collaboration with the World Bank officials,” Angamuthu said.
