We must fight poll to form government: Sonowal

GUWAHATI, Feb 16: State BJP’s Chief Ministerial  candidate Sarbanda Sonowal today told the party leaders and cadres that they must fight this election to form a BJP government at Dispur, and in order to do that they must reach out to everyone in the State from all communities, castes, ethnicities and groups.

The State executive meeting of BJP Assam Pradesh was held at Pandu in the city today. Besides Sonowal, tiol general secretary of party Ram Madhav, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister for Panchayati Raj, Rural Development and Drinking Water and Sanitation Chaudhary Birender Singh and State general secretary Phanindra th Sarma were accompanied by veteran state leaders like Ajay Jamwal, MPs Bijoya Chakrbarty, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and RP Sarmah, Chandra Mohan Patowary, rayan Bortotoky and Jadab Deka.

Sonowal said: “We must fight this election to form a BJP government in Assam. In order to do so, we must reach out to everyone in Assam from all communities, castes, ethnicities and groups.”

Encouraging the party workers for a united effort to fight the Congress government led by Tarun Gogoi, Sonowal said: “People believe in those families who have interl discipline, who fight with unity and who exemplify strong brotherhood. So, we must maintain our discipline and work hard to overcome all challenges.”

On the  party’s strategies for the elections, Sonowal said: “We must go to the people with our achievements and the people friendly policies of Modi government. We must approach the public with our positive agenda towards furthering the cause of socio-economic developments in Assam.”

Coming down strongly on Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in Assam, Union Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Sanitation Chaudhary Birender Singh said, “The Congress has selectively made only 2,000 people rich in Assam over the past 15 years.” He added, “In the last 20 months, the Central Government released enough funds for Assam under MGNREGA but the state government failed to utilize the amount. In fact, as against Rs 75, 000 for rural housing, the Central Government has raised the money to Rs 1,50,000, and it will soon be released for Assam as well.” However, he stressed that corruption in Tarun Gogoi’s government keeps the benefits of pro-poor schemes limited to a few influential households in Assam.”

Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh said, “Agricultural development is the top most priority for Assam. rendra Modi announced Pradhan Mantri Sichai Yoj for the scientific development of agriculture sector. There is a vision for water in each and every agriculture field. Modi also announced the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yoja in order to benefit the small and margil farmers in the country.” Addressing the gathering at the meet, tiol general secretary Ram Madhav said, “This is the last chance for us to form a government. After five years, the demographic pattern of Assam will change. So, we must win this election in order to protect the identity and entity of Assam.”
