GUWAHATI, Nov 18: The Hindu Yuva-Chatra Parishad (HYCP) has reacted to Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju’s statement on the number of Bangladeshis staying in the country, and said that the need of the hour is action against foreigners, not statistics.

In a statement issued to the press today, HYCP president Balen Baishya and general secretary Dipankar Gohain said: “There’s nothing new and nothing to be shocked at Rijiju’s statement that there are two crore Bangladeshis staying illegally in the country. Over the years the ministers have been informing the people of the country of numerous such statistics on Bangladeshis staying in the country. However, no government could do anything tangible against the Bangladeshi mece. Before the last Lok Sabha election, as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate rendra Modi did promise to deport all Bangladeshis from the country. However, after coming to power he turned his back to the problem. In such a situation, the statistics given by Rijiju can’t assure us anymore. If the Modi government has an iota of accountability to the tion, it should deport the two crore Bangladeshis from the country.”

Baishya and Gohain said: “The BJP government at the Centre claims to have solved the India-Bangladesh border problem by handing over 10,600 acre land to the neighbouring country. However, the Muhuri sar incident has proved it beyond a shadow of doubt that Bangladesh has kept its aggression alive by taking the advantage of weakness on the part of India. In such a situation, there’s no altertive to prompt and military assault against Bangladesh.”
