What gives visitors to city goose bumps!

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 25: This is one of the scenes that give visitors to Guwahati goose bumps.  Let this picture speak for itself. This structure, fenced with bamboo, is the cattle bridge over the drain where Dimbeswar Neog Path meets GS Road near ABC. The cattle bridge, according to the local people, has caved in for being uble to bear the weight of heavily loaded vehicles that continue to ply over Dimbeswar Neog Path. Such heavy vehicles carry materials for a number of construction works taking place in the area.

How risky the bridge is quite visible. Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has left the bridge without repairing for the past few days just by covering it with a temporary bamboo fence. Such cases are very common in Guwahati that, however, is given a face lift within weeks, cosmetic although, whenever any VVIP is to visit it.

It is also a reality in Guwahati that the agencies concerned do not act until there are fatal accidents. If their memories serve Guwahatians well, they are well aware of the fact as to why the bend of the drain at Zoo Tiniali on the RG Baruah Road was properly fenced with concrete works after leaving it unfenced for years and on.
