What?s behind Rajdhani Express mania?

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 25: Time is the essence – every moment counts – especially when one has to give the watchful eyes of the police the slip. When viewed from that direction, what else can be the best train for smugglers and miscreants than the Rajdhani Express?

A passenger saves at least eight hours by opting to travel by the Rajdhani Express from the Northeast to Delhi. The watchful eyes of policemen detecting something illegal being carried by a train passenger is a matter of just a moment, if at all detected. Can one imagine as to how many such moments are there in eight hours?  This amply shows that by opting to travel by Rajdhani Express to Delhi one can minimize the vigil on him/her and his/her belongings by at least eight hours.

Travel by the Rajdhani Express to Delhi is also a kind of luxury for a section of train travelers. The increase in cash spent and comforts gained does add to the passengers’ nobility, at least seemingly. Such fake or false nobility may also dissuade policemen from keeping strict vigil on them.

Today too, GRP personnel seized seven packets of ganja carried in four bags from one Rakesh Das (30) from Rajdhani Express at Platform No. 1 at Guwahati Railway Station. Das, hailing from Lumding, was bound for Delhi from Dimapur by the Rajdhani Express. The consignment weighs 50 kg.

Recovery of smuggled goods from trains, especially from the Rajdhani Express, is almost an everyday affair nowadays.
