‘Why are you afraid of disclosing ga Accord?’

Gogoi criticizes Dispur on a slew of issues

GUWAHATI, March 3: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that if any GP secretary had issued any false certificates that would be treated as 420 cases and dealt with as per laws. Gogoi said this while reacting to the Gauhati High Court treating NRC documents like certificates issued by GP secretaries, especially in case of married women, as private documents, not public ones.

Over 40 lakh such certificates issued by GP secretaries have been submitted as NRC documents in the State. Talking to newsmen today, Gogoi said on the issue of handing over of oilfields of the State to private companies: “The BJP dispensation in Assam doesn’t have its own say. They just nod at the diktat of the Centre. We would have opposed the Centre’s decision on selling oilfields of the State. What the Sarbanda Sonowal Government is doing on this issue goes against the interest of Assam.”

“Now the Central Government is out to amend the citizenship Act, and Dispur is silent on that. They speak of Jaati, Maati and Bheti on one hand and take the pain of amending Acts to unroll a red carpet for Bangladeshis to the State on the other,” Gogoi said, and added: “What happened to the Gas Cracker project? It has been started, but what about the downstream industries, especially plastic industry? There’s nothing tangible! The Modi Government doesn’t favour the public sector. He is for the private sector only.”

On the vexed issue of ga Accord, Gogoi said: “Why is the government afraid of disclosing the contents of the Accord? It can sign any accord with galand. We’ve nothing to say if that accord remains within the Constitutiol boundary of galand. We’re not ready to accept any accord with galand if that has anything to do with the territory of Assam. Border disputes with galand should be solved in accordance with the Constitutiol boundary.”

Gogoi said: “There was a move for the setting up of Rajiv Gandhi Petroleum Institute at Sivasagar. What happened to that? Dispur is paying no attention to that.”
