GUWAHATI, Oct 29: State Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal has said that Dispur is going to provide settlement of an eight-bigha plot for Baitho Mandir at Ahom Gaon in the city.

Sonowal said this while speaking as the chief guest at the 11th annual conference and silver jubilee celebration of the Nikhil Bathou Mohasabha (NBM) at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium and Parade Ground at Amingaon in the city on Sunday.

Sonowal said: “The Bodos are sons of the soil in Assam. It is needless to say their contribution to the making of the State. Baithou Puja is a worship of the Five Elements (Panchabhuta). Organizing the conference and silver jubilee celebration in such a disciplined way has proved it yet again that the Bodos have been contributing to the creation of the Greater Assamese society. They’re set to contribute a lot in the future as well. I appeal to the coming generation to take lessons on love of labour, discipline etc., from Baithou Puja.”

Sonowal said that the government implemented a number of schemes for the uplift of people of various communities in the State. “Efforts are on to provide free-of-cost cooking gas connection to 26 lakh families under Pradhan Mantrir Ujjala Yojo. As of now 2.80 lakh families have been availing benefits of this scheme. We’ve also schemes benefitting differently-abled people. Rural electrification under Dindayal Gram Baidyutik Yojo and Mudra Yojo are also going on to provide employment avenues to youths in the State. Mukhyamantrir Samagra Gramya Unyan Yojo has also been launched.”

Sonowal appealed to the people of the State to be aware of a section of people working overtime to derail the NRC update work. “All genuine Indians will get their mes figured in NRC, and there’s no doubt about this,” he said, and appealed all to foil the plot to derail NRC update work in the State.

Reacting to the plea from the Nikhil Bathou Mohasabha to declare the day of Baithou Puja a government holiday, Sonowal said: “The plea is under consideration of the government.” The open session presided over by NBM president Bashishtha Boro was iugurated by BTC CEM Hagrama Mohilary.
