Workers exposed to hazardous toxins!

GUWAHATI, March 14: The labourers engaged in cleaning drains and cals in Guwahati are at hazards. They are exposed to toxins that may create health hazards for them. The labourers may not know that they are at hazards. Ignorance, they say, is bliss.   
Of late the GMC is seen to be racing against time to get all drains and cals in the city cleaned and dug before the onset of the Monsoons. The work of cleaning drains and digging up cals has been given to a number of contractors most of whom are seen to have exposed the labourers to hazardous toxins. It is seen in various parts of the city that labourers are working without any protective coverings like gumboots, masks, helmets etc., for their safety. Of course, in some areas only the labourers who have to walk in drains are seen to wear gumboots, but they are without masks and helmets. By working in such a condition, they run the risk.
