Workshop on radio programme for disaster preparedness held

GUWAHATI, August 21: Dr. Amika Ray Memorial Trust (ARMT), in collaboration with Assam State Disaster Magement Authority (ASDMA), organized a two-day capacity-building workshop on disaster magement using participatory communication, on August 20 and 21, 2016 at Jn Taranga Community Radio Station, Housefed Complex, Guwahati.

According to a press release, the workshop was formally iugurated by Professor Madhab Chandra Sarma, chairperson of the Trust. The welcome address was extended by Rajat Baran Mahanta, Vice Chairperson of ARMT. A total of ten participants from Jn Taranga (KKHSOU) and Radio Luit (Gauhati University) were trained on the Community Learning Programme, a model based on formative research developed by Commonwealth of Learning (COL) - an intergovernmental organization based in Cannda. ASDMA project officer Mridusmita Borah shared a detailed description about disaster magement and preparedness to the participants. Apart from the local trainers, a Delhi-based participatory communication specialist Devi Lee Bose interacted with the participants regarding Message Matrix of Community Learning Programme. Both the radio stations shall produce ten Community Learning Programmes on disaster preparedness each where stakeholders and respective communities shall actively participate, the release added.
