World Museum Day observed in State museum

GUWAHATI, May 18: Under the initiative of the Directorate of Museums, Assam, the World Museum Day was observed at its office premise in the city today, a release said. A lecture topic on ‘Museum and Cultural Landscape’ was organised on this occasion. RC Das, former Director of the State museum who attended the session, stated that the museum movement in Assam started in the year 1932. Late Anda Chandra Agarwala was the pioneer in establishing a museum in Assam. He also added that there are museums in different districts of the State which attract a sizeable number of visitors and tourists. Apart from this, different college museums, university museums and many private museums also exist in the state. He also stressed on cleaning the different galleries of the museum rather than depending on chemical treatment. YS Wunglengton, the Director of Museum, explained the importance of observing the day and also welcomed the guests. The release further said that a workshop was also held in the office premise where children from Shisu Sarathi took part.
