Xhoixobote Dhemalite set to release in USA

GUWAHATI, Jan 15: After winning awards and accolades in India and abroad, Bidyut Kotoky directed ‘Xhoixobote Dhemalite’ (Rainbow Fields) has hit another milestone as it is going to be the first Assamese film to be released commercially in the USA.
Apart from that, the film has been selected for the prestigious Winter Film Awards that showcases the work of emerging filmmakers from around the world. Winter Film Awards 7th annual Intertiol Film Festival is going to be held from February 22 to March 3 in New York with a jam-packed schedule of 93 films of all genres from 31 countries.
“It’s indeed very encouraging. This is because it signifies pushing the geographical boundaries for Assamese films, which is the need of the hour. Besides, I believe people from across the globe will relate to the emotion of Xhoixobote Dhemalite,” said Bidyut. The distribution company Media Konnect, through their cinema chain Cine Grand will be releasing the film in selected theatres in the USA.
The film deals with the psychological journey of kids who grew up during the turbulent period of 1980s in Assam when several crucial socio-political developments, including the Assam agitation, took place.   The film is likely to hit the theatres in Assam in later half of January. It will have its premier on Tuesday which will be a charity one. The funds raised here will be sent to Moran Blind School which is run by Victor Banerjee.
Written and directed by award-winning director Bidyut Kotoky and produced by Mumbai-based production house India Stories along with Dhruv Creative Production and Kurmasa Kreates, the film stars Victor Banerjee, Dipannita Sharma, kul Vaid, ved Aslam, Nipon Goswami, Nikumoni Barua and a bunch of kids. It was also selected for the prestigious 11th Intertiol Children’s Film Festival in Bangladesh which will be held on January 27.
Earlier, the film had won best foreign film award at Hollywood Cine Fest last year and had its world premiere at IFFI Goa under the prestigious Indian Panorama.
