Yarn for blankets is Gogoi's way

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, February 16: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is now trying to ‘blanket’ his failure to provide ‘blankets’ to the poor during this winter as he had promised in the last State Budget, by giving them yarn.

The last Budget had an allocation of Rs 25 crore for providing blankets to the poor, but the poor people’s ‘winter’s comfort’ could not be provided due to bureaucratic redtape. Even the tender was issued and  parties were fixed for the supply of blankets, but the redtape spelt doom for the poor. Now the government is planning to give the poor yarn instead of blankets.

This is degree of response the Chief Minister is getting from his bureaucrats, who are at the helm of affairs in running the state administration. A pertinent question is: Will the yarn be supplied on time?

Gogoi is one of the takers of the adage – promises are meant to be broken.
