GUWAHATI, March 20: A news story of public interest still can do at ease what tasking jobs like slogan-shouting protest marches and processions often cannot. And this happens when a news story pricks the conscience of those at the helm of affairs.

A stand-alone picture on page 3 in The Sentinel published on March 20 has proved the veracity of the saying 'a picture is worth a thousand words'. The picture has just visualized as to how rules are violated and bent by certain sections for their gains. The picture is that of a signboard of a company erected in the middle of the road near Ganeshguri Chariali in the city. Some questions, pricking the conscience of those at the helm of affairs, have also been asked to get the desired effect.

The impact is: following a directive from Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner M Angamuthu, revenue circle officer Chinmoy th and officials from the PWD dismantled a number of such structures - signboards of Prodigy - on March 20. According to the district administration, Prodigy erected eight such structures on the GS Road, and four of them were complete. The demolition team dismantled four structures today, sources in the district administration said, added that the structures were a nuisance for vehicular traffic.
