Youth makes attempt to rape minor girl

GUWAHATI, March 26: Crimes against women are on the rise in Guwahati, and the situation seems to have gone beyond control. Saju Ali, a 21-year-old youth, made an attempt to rape a 15-year-old girl yesterday when she was alone in her house in the No. 2 Nizarapar area under Noonmati police station in the city. When the girl raised a hue and cry the youth hit her on the head with a big stone and fled the scene.  The local people rushed to the spot and rescued the girl, but failed to catch the youth who had made a quick getaway by then.  The injured girl was admitted to the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) from where she has been sent to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The incident took place close on the heels of a girl was raped and killed by miscreants in the Segun Bagan area in Noonmati recently. In that case a girl had gone missing on March 15 and her body was found on March 17. It is believed that she had been raped before killing her. A great deal of sensation prevails in the area following the rising crimes against women.
