With the death of Bappi Lahiri on Tuesday night, India lost the music icon which can never be replaced. Bappi Lahiri fondly known as Bappi Da was well-known nationally as well as internationally for his collaboration with great stars from global entertainment.

The cause of the death of the legendary singer was OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) which means the blockage of the airways while a person is sleeping.

The OSA disorder is something that has become much more common these days therefore it is very significant to understand the disorder in-depth as it causes death when left untreated.

Just like the case of Bappi Da, the disorder may lead people to death after it turns very dangerous. In case the situation is taken lightly then it becomes difficult to save a person from dying.

It may be mentioned that Bappi Da is not the first celebrity to die from this disease. Earlier in 2016 American actress Carrier Fisher also died after she had succumbed to OSA.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Its Risk Factor

According to Dr. Vivek Anand Padegal, Director of Pulmonology at Fortis Hospital in Bengaluru the ailment named Obstructive Sleep Apnea in terms of layman means obstruction in airways at the time when a person is in the state of sleep.

The muscle tone in the muscle decreases when someone is sleeping and there is a tendency for the muscle tone to fall more in a person suffering from OSA.

This condition results in the airways in the neck leading to the upper respiratory tract so that it becomes narrow and when someone is asleep, air passes through these narrow ways with much difficulty which causes snoring.

Pedegal says that it becomes risky when the condition becomes severe as at that time the airways get entirely blocked and after that, the oxygen in the blood is cut off, blood pressure increases, heartbeat fluctuates and the body suffers stress. To deal with the situation and to again reopen the airways the person must wake up for one or two seconds.
