6.1 Earthquake Jolts Afghanistan, 130 Killed

Kabul: An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 rocked Afghanistan and claimed 130 people in the country early on Wednesday.

According to disaster management officials, at least 250 people have died in the country due to the earthquake.

As per the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was about 44 km from the city of Khost in Afghanistan and was at a depth of 51 km.

This earthquake was so strong that people also felt tremors in Lahore, Multan, Quetta of neighboring Pakistan. Apart from this, there are reports of tremors being felt in India as well.

''Strong and long jolts," a resident of the Afghan capital, Kabul, posted on a website of the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

Reportedly, earlier on Tuesday night, earthquake tremors were felt in Pakistan too as an earthquake of 6.1 magnitudes occurred here at 2:24 pm.

However, fortunately, no loss of life or property has been reported in the earthquake in Pakistan. Apart from this, earthquake tremors were also felt in Malaysia late at night. The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.1 here.
