New Delhi: The former Bolivian soldier who believed to have shot dead Marxist revolutionary hero Ernesto ''Che'' Guevara died on Thursday aged 80.

As per the reports, the soldier named Mario Teran Salazar shot dead Argentina-born Guevara on October 9, 1967 in the eastern Santa Cruz province of Bolivia at the height of the cold war.

After the retirement, Teran lived in Santa Cruz de la Sierra and had been hospitalized for the past three weeks.

The hospital declined to comment on Teran's death due to ''medical confidentiality."

While speaking to AFP, Gary Prado, who himself is a former Bolivian soldier and also who helped capture Guevara in the jungle region 54 years ago said, "He died. He was ill and nothing could be done."

Guevara was captured on October 8, 1967 by the Bolivian army with the help from tow Cuban-America CIA agents.

Guevara was a young hero of every ideology, but especially the youths who are inclined towards the Left, consider him as their warrior. Guevara became popular in two ways, some people call him the killer Che Guevara and some people portray him as revolutionary.

It was 9 October 1967, when Che Guevara was trying to overthrow the government there in Bolivia, at the same time the Bolivian army and CIA officers came to know about Che Guevara and they killed him. Although even after the assassination, the feudal forces could not eradicate Che Guevara's revolution.
