Day of Dead is an occasion where people from Mexico and other Latin American countries celebrate remembering the departed souls of their family members. This year also the celebration continues with great joy from 31st October through 2 November. The Day of Dead is also known as Dia de Muertos in Spanish which means paying homage to all those who died in the family and is also celebrated to honor death as a part of people's life.

The celebration of the Day of Dead festival was paused since the breakout of the COVID pandemic but this year it is observed by people across the world. As the festival is highly originated from Mexico the Day of Dead 2021 led grand celebrations in Mexico City led down with processions and parades. The streets of Mexico were filled with parades with the representation of skeletons, icons, and signs of death also La Catrina's character. People were seen performing various rituals in attires of ghosts, masks of skeletons,s and lighting candles, lamps.

The origin of the Day of Dead festival comes from Mexico and Mexican heritages all over the world. Around 3, 000 years ago in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, the ritual was performed with the purpose of honoring the dead. In central Mexico live the Aztecs and other Nahua community has a certain cyclical vision of the world that saw death as a very essential part of human life. It is believed that when people die they travel to the Land of Dead known as Chicunamictlá. And after struggling through the nine tough levels for many years, the soul of the person reaches the final destination called Mictlan. The family members throughout the festival offer food, water, and other essential materials to help the departed soul complete this difficult and long journey.
