NEW DELHI: The Airports Council International has named Delhi Airport to be one of the best airports in the Asia Pacific region. It was also been named the cleanest airport in the region by the international group.

The Airports Council International is a non-profit organisation of airport operators across the world. The Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi is operated by Delhi International Airports Limited, which is a consortium under GMR Airports Infrastructure Ltd.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport has been awarded the best airport under the Airport Service Quality for the year 2022. This airport falls in the category of airports that handle more than 40 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA). It was also named the cleanest airport in the Asia Pacific region by the Airports Council International.

"The ASQ programme is the world's leading airport customer experience measurement and benchmarking programme. This recognition is based on live research via surveys gathered at the airport - direct from the traveller - rating their satisfaction on the day of travel," mentioned a statement regarding the same from Delhi International Airports Limited.

Another international airport located in the state of Tamil Nadu has bagged the award of the best airport in a different category. The Tiruchirappalli International Airport was named the best airport in the Asia Pacific region in the category of airports handling under 2 million passengers per annum. The award was given by the same organisation, Airports Council International and the Tiruchirappalli International Airport is operated by the government-owned Airports Authority of India.

Also, the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport of Guwahati recorded a footfall of nearly 4 lakh passengers in February 2023, which is a sharp increase from the corresponding month of last year.
