New York: According to media sources, Facebook is likely to change its name soon. It has been reported that the new name may be announced at the company's annual Connect Conference by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg which is scheduled to be held on October 28. However, there are also speculations about the new name being unveiled sooner.

Facebook has responded to the news saying it does not comment on "rumour or speculation".

It is to be mentioned that the company has been facing scrutiny from the U.S. government due to its business practices. 

After its name change, Facebook's social media app with join Instagram and Whatsapp to be put under the parent company whose new name will soon be unveiled. 

According to sources, Facebook will mainly focus on metaverse after its name change. Metaverse is a proposed project in which an online world will be created where different devices will be used by people to move and communicate in a virtual environment.

On Tuesday, the plan to create 10,000 jobs in the European Union was announced by the company. These jobs will be created in the next five years.

The term Metaverse was first coined in a dystopian novel three decades ago, and Mark Zuckerberg has been mentioning it repeatedly since July.
